sleek marvel or stardusted?
SLEEK MARVEL OR STARDUSTED?
YOU DECIDE.
Tell a deeper story from the surface. With Masterpiece, you can now enhance the surface appearence and etchings of your lightsaber through a wide selection of saber hilt finishes.
HILT FINISH
brushed
BRUSHED
The exposed aluminum surfaces of the hilt are hand brushed to a matte finish with subtle hairline textures. All other areas of the hilt are anodized in matte black. This is only available for Silver Black and Durasteel.
satin
SATIN
The entire hilt is sprayed with matte clear coat, resulting in an overall smooth textureless satin finish.
mirrored
MIRRORED
The exposed aluminum surfaces of the hilt are hand polished to a brilliant mirrored finish. All other areas of the hilt are anodized in matte black.
weathered
WEATHERED
The edges and surfaces of the hilt's matte black anodized areas are meticulously hand sanded to create a textured appearance of wear. The exposed aluminum portions will be finished in brushed (Silver Black / Durasteel) or satin finish.
stained
STAINED
Special black paint splatter is applied across the entire hilt through a combination of rubbing & dabbing techniques. The hilt is then further finished with a layer of matte clear coat.
distressed
DISTRESSED
The entire hilt is subjected to a chemical process that tarnishes all exposed aluminum surfaces. Textured acid etched areas will darken, and this is an effective method for making etching elements stand out more.
rugged
RUGGED
This represents a combination of the weathered and stained hilt finish.
aged
AGED
This represents a combination of the weathered and distressed hilt finish.
battleworn
BATTLEWORN
This represents a combination of the stained and distressed hilt finish.
ancient
ANCIENT
The entire hilt is weathered, stained and distressed until it achieves a relic-like appearance.

the masterpiece process
THE MASTERPIECE PROCESS
MASTERPIECE by Sabertrio is the ultimate form of lightsaber personalization — a collaborative journey where you
co-design your saber hilt with us. Each Masterpiece is custom acid-etched with patterns and motifs of your choosing,
resulting in a lightsaber that's truly one of a kind.
Acid etching is the process of submerging a saber hilt into an acidic formula. The acid reacts with exposed aluminum to
create a rustic textured surface. By applying specially plotted decals that block the chemical reaction in selected
areas, intricate etching designs are formed.
This section walks you through the journey of creating a Masterpiece and highlights the key steps that will shape its final outcome.
THE JOURNEY
Once your Masterpiece commission is placed, please hold tight. Within a few working days, a Sabertrio representative will reach out to you via the email address you provided to begin discussing the design details of your lightsaber. From there, the Design Phase officially begins.

Your Masterpiece will go through four distinct phases before it's completed. The first three phases will require your input and feedback, as outlined below:
DESIGN
The goal of this phase is to finalize the etching design and, if selected, the color accent placements on your saber hilt.
To begin, we'll need you to share your vision. An overall concept is sufficient, but providing additional details or supporting
graphics can help accelerate the process. Using the information you provide, our designer will create a design visual for your
review and approval.
Alternatively, if you prefer to design the saber yourself, we can provide a blank template for you to draw on—just keep in mind
that certain design elements may be limited by the constraints of acid etching. Revisions are welcome during this phase.
Once the design visual is approved—or your self-submitted design is verified to be workable—we'll move on to the Decal phase.
DECAL
In this phase, decals based on your approved design are carefully plotted and applied to your lightsaber by hand.
Once completed, you'll receive a video showcasing the saber hilt with all decals in place for your final approval.
Please take the time to review every detail and decal alignment carefully, as design changes will no longer be possible
after this stage.
The Crafting phase begins once you've approved the decal application.
CRAFTING
This phase is about transforming the temporary decals into permanent etched designs on your lightsaber.
After that, the saber hilt is powder coated (if selected) and refinished multiple times to achieve the final look.
Once these processes are complete, a video of the saber hilt will be provided for your approval.
Please carefully check for any defects.
The Assembly phase will commence once the video has been approved.
ASSEMBLY
In this final phase, the electronics and components based on your selected options are installed into your Masterpiece. Once assembled, the saber hilt enters our regular production line, where it undergoes extensive quality checks before being carefully packed and shipped to you.
Understanding Acid Etching
Which parts of a hilt are etchable?
The acid etching process only reacts with exposed aluminum surfaces — these are the silver areas of the saber hilt. The black areas are anodized and are impervious to the acid formula. To create additional etching space, we can selectively remove the anodization from certain sections. These areas will be clearly highlighted in the reference diagram we provide during the design discussion.
Regular etching or reverse etching?
We offer two etching styles: Regular Etching and Reverse Etching. The comparison image below highlights the difference between them:

Regular Etching
Etching designs appear embossed and stands out in relief. The design itself will have a smooth texture. This is the default style that we will use.
Reverse Etching
Etching designs appear debossed and indented into the surface of the hilt. The design itself will have a rustic texture.
What supporting graphics should I provide during the Design Phase?
After sharing your overall etching concept, providing supporting graphics in the correct format can help expedite
the Design Phase of your saber's build.
To accurately plot the necessary masking decals, all designs must be in vector format. Ideally, your
supporting graphics should be vector-based files such as .AI or .EPS.
If a vector file isn't available, we can image trace your provided graphic — as long as it's in a high-resolution pixel format (e.g., .PNG or .JPG).
The higher the resolution, the better the accuracy, as illustrated below:

Important: All supporting graphics must be in black and white only. Gradients are not supported in the acid etching process, as there is no way to taper or control the chemical reaction gradually. Clear, high-contrast artwork ensures the most accurate results.

What are the limitations of acid etching?
As explained above, etching designs are created using masking decals that block the acid from reacting with certain areas of the lightsaber. However, due to the limited surface area, these decals may struggle to reproduce highly intricate designs with fine detail. As a general rule, any design element thinner than 1mm is not recommended, as it carries a high risk of etching defects.

Can I put texts on my Masterpiece?
Definitely! Text is one of the best ways to personalize your Masterpiece. The ideal placement is usually around the circumference of a specific section of the hilt. Given that the average diameter of a Sabertrio lightsaber is 37mm, you'll typically have about 115mm of horizontal space to work with. Because of this, the text should be kept short and simple for the best visual outcome.
How long will it take for my Masterpiece to be completed?
Since every Masterpiece is fully bespoke, it requires a longer lead time — and that timeline largely depends on how quickly the design concept is finalized. From the date of design confirmation, we'll need up to 20 weeks to complete your lightsaber and prepare it for shipping. This estimate assumes that approvals for progress review videos are also provided promptly.
