Handmaiden of Peridea

Rising from the side of a massive cliff, an ancient fortress looms over a desolate wasteland — a silent monument to a forgotten past on a truly isolated world. This is no ordinary planet. It exists in a far galaxy, reachable only through an elusive pathway long thought to be mere legend. And yet, we have reached it — and in doing so, discovered that ancient civilizations from our own galaxy had already been here long before us.

Welcome to Peridea — a world within a once-vibrant galaxy, now left hollow by the long and brutal wages of war. All that remains are scattered pockets of life… and a wealth of relics, left behind to be unearthed, understood, and perhaps even awakened. For deep within the fortress lies a sprawling network of catacombs — and within one of its thousand burial chambers rests an ancient lightsaber.

Despite the ages, it still pulses with energy. But what truly sets it apart are the intricate geometric designs that adorn the saber hilt. Along the upper side, a myriad of semi-radial elements — identified with the help of an archaeological droid — reveal striking similarities to ancient Zeffonian architecture. The remaining surfaces contain intersecting triangular lines that mimic the armor plating seams of fallen tomb guards scattered throughout the catacombs.

Over time, the harsh environment has worn away at the weapon, bringing out every engraved detail as grime settled into the recessed line of the saber hilt, darkening them and giving the entire piece a distinctly weathered, timeworn look. Yet, curiously, the few golden fittings on the saber hilt remain almost pristine — just like the preserved plating on the fallen automatons themselves — suggesting both were forged from the same life wind–imbued alloy.

While much remains unknown about this ancient lightsaber, a small note found nearby at the time of its discovery revealed that its name, once translated into Galactic Common, loosely meant the ‘Handmaiden of Peridea’.
