The Evangelist’s Sibling

We're just several hours away from the official launch of MASTERPIECE by Sabertrio and while we wait, let us look at yet another Masterpiece that we have had the privilege of working on in the past.

While at times the concept of a Masterpiece is completely original, there are other occasions when it was inspired or derived from something else. For this instance, the inspiration came from another Masterpiece. The owner of this saber had taken a keen liking to a very special piece that we did quite a long time ago named "The Evangelist". It was a Vahlken that featured very intricate repeating geometrical motifs on every facet of the hilt.

Although no Masterpieces are ever allowed to be replicated, we most certainly could mimic its concept to create something entirely new and amazing! For today's showcase, we did just that starting out by designing an original motif that was based on dwarven patterns of Erebor, from the Lord of the Rings. The Vahlken was segmented into three main areas; the emitter, the switch section and the lower portion. From there, we designed three variations of the dwarven geometrical motif and assigned each variant just to one area of the hilt. The pattern, which was designed to interconnect with itself on both sides, was then repeated on every facet of the Vahlken.

To break the monotony, the mid band of the Vahlken was etched with several parallel lines running mostly in perpendicular to the main motifs before framing a small emblem of the Jedi Order. The end result is a highly detailed and intricate custom saber that aims to reflect fine craftsmanship of an ancient time. This saber was certainly very challenging to do especially since the slightest error would require a complete restart of the process. Having said that, seeing the end result has justified the immense work and today we can say for sure that this is truly a Masterpiece.
