The Red Comet

A critical aspect of MASTERPIECE by Sabertrio is crafting a design that connects on a personal level with the client. Often, that means we need to delve into a specific fandom and re-interpret certain beloved aspects of that universe onto the surfaces of a lightsaber hilt. Today, we turn the spotlight onto a truly bespoke saber that accomplishes precisely that – a piece inspired by the MSN-04 Sazabi from Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack.
The journey of this Masterpiece’s creation began with the client selecting the Korvus as the canvas, after which he provided a few rough concepts for what the overall design could be based upon. From there, he opted to leave the rest in the hands of our capable team, so we got straight to work!
We started at the variable-length emitter, where the embellished Newborn Neo Zeon emblem from the Sazabi’s shield was prominently featured. On the opposite side, we carefully crafted a detailed rendition of that same mobile suit’s head. These elements were then framed with symmetrical geometric details that mimic armor panelling, and these were carried all the way down to the pommel.
With everything meticulously acid-etched into the metal and chemically bathed to darken the etched surfaces, we powder coated majority of the saber hilt in the exact same hue as the Sazabi mobile suit itself. Certain areas of the hilt were then accentuated in gold to highlight key elements of the design, and these were paired with matching-colored screws, Covertec wheel and activation switch.
The result is a one-of-a-kind piece that reimagines an iconic mobile suit through collaboration and craftsmanship. It’s a truly bespoke hilt that stands as a testament to the nearly limitless possibilities of personal expression through saber customization – which is why we are proud to call this a true MASTERPIECE by Sabertrio.
