The Shard of Light
This is 光之枚 Guāng Zhī Méi, also known as the Shard of Light. It is a Masterpiece Mirah and the personal lightsaber wielded by Sydney Chin who is part of Sabertrio's official cosplay group and a medal-winning member of Malaysia's National Wushu team.
Her outfit was designed by us from the ground up and to truly do it justice, her lightsaber not only had to be aesthetically aligned, but also to personify her cosplay character. Throughout the entire hilt, we used a mixture of geometrical patterns that were initially of oriental origin, but ultimately modified to a more contemporary style.
Starting at the emitter is an intricate diagonal element that matches the pattern found on the drapes of Sydney's scapula dress. Moving lower, the choke point and pommel features an almost floral-like motif that was based on the design of the outfit's inner lining fabric. And finally, the switch section and covertec band utilizes a unique pattern that almost resembles the Rebel Alliance's tactical hud.
All these were permanently acid etched onto the Mirah which was then bathed in a chemical solution to give it a darker grey tone that matches Sydney's attire. As a final touch, the band just below the Covertec Wheel was powder coated in blue to compliment the attached armored tassel while the main grip section was wrapped in black genuine Nappa leather that is in the same tone as her armbands and belt.
With these selections of designs, colors and materials, there is no doubt that Sydney is a Jedi, and one who harnesses her martial arts capabilities to protect all that is good. With the Shard of Light "光之枚" at her side and a deep connection with the Force, she is ready to bring the light to wherever she goes in the Galaxy far, far away.
And for the first time, limited pieces derived from this lightsaber will be available for purchase at the Sabertrio May the 4th RTS Event. It starts at 9am EDT.
