Their conflict was born of mutual suspicion. As her master’s body withered with age, he sought the secret of eternal life. He believed his apprentice was waiting for his strength to fade so her victory would come easy, a patience he saw as a violation of the principle that only the strongest survive. To her, his pursuit of immortality was a coward's refusal to pass on the mantle and a betrayal of the order he founded.

Their ideological divide culminated in a final duel on the sands of Ambria. Outmatched in physical combat, she turned to dark sorcery. Drawing the energy pooled beneath the planet's surface into a black mist, she solidified it into serpentine tendrils, a power that would have broken a lesser mind to hold. She unleashed them at her master, and one struck true, disintegrating his arm where it touched and dropping him to the sand in agony.

Defeated physically, he destroyed his own body to force his consciousness into hers. The invasion breached her mind, briefly seizing control of her sight. She repelled the assault and cast his spirit into the void, claiming the mantle of Dark Lord.

This Vahlken is designed as a tribute to that duel. A double-etching process creates the raised serpentine tendrils and the recessed areas beneath them. To simulate the black mist, these recesses are darkened to a matte ash-black, contrasting against the coils that wrap the hilt from the pommel to the octagonal vented emitter.

The duel marked the moment the master-apprentice bond was broken, proving the doctrine in combat and beginning the thousand years of dark lineage that followed. And so the saber hilt is named First Severance."
